Crown of Thorns - Karma
Point 10190, 2002
Crown of Thorns are back with another album, and they just seem to get
better every time.
Their last release evaded me, but looking at (or rather, listening to)
their previous titles, they constantly improve their quality and style, and so
far can never be said to stagnate. This album seems to swing towards a more
friendly and less heavy sound, perhaps aimed at radio although don't expect
British broadcasters to take any notice.
Jean Beauvior's strong and distinct voice leads the way, with the rest
of the band supporting with powerful harmonies, backed up of course by quality
musicianship. There isn't a single track here I wouldn't say is "good", so it
is difficult to pick out a favourie, although many would instantly associate
with the one cover track My Sweet Lord although as always it is done
with Crown of Thorns' own sweet flavour.
If you are contemplating dabbling into the Crown of Thorns sound,
there's no better place to start than this album, and if you already have some
of their material you shouldn't be without this either. Go get it!
