Clive Nolan & Oliver Wakeman - Hound of the Baskervilles
Verglas VGCD022, 2002
What can a band possibly do as a follow-up to something like Jabberwokky? Something even better, of course. Following in the same mould of a narrated and sung story, the dynamic keyboard duo have opted for a Sherlock Holmes story - possibly The Hound of the Baskervilles is the most famous story of all.
This album seems much more polished, the keyboard work is more powerful, the songs more powerful and the whole album gels together so that it gallops along and you hardly detect time passing. A gaggle of artists provide the characters to sing their parts, and the narration is by Robert Powell, no less. Altogether an excellent production - what next, I wonder?
