Electric Light Orchestra - Zoom
Epic 5025002, 2001
'elo, 'elo, elo, wotz this 'ere? Another ELO comeback? The last we seemed to hear of the Electric Light Orchestra was ten years back with Part II. At that time, the band comprised Bev Bevan, Mick Kaminski, Hugh McDowell, Kelly Groucut, Louis Clark, Pete Haycock, Neil Lockwood and Eric Troyer. But here we are ten years later and the Electric Light Orchestra we have here is slightly different - the lineup is Jeff Lynne, Jeff Lynne and Jeff Lynne, not to mention Jeff Lynne. Yeah, honest! Enough of the mick-taking (Jeff-taking?), what about the music? Well, its good, thumpy, cheerful, traditional ELO music, probably best compared with the Out of the Blue era. There's little to fault the music, but it doesn't break new ground and as such has, in my opinion, not a hope of grabbing attention. Nevertheless, there are loads of tracks that would suit our tired and dreary radio in the UK, and its hard to pick just one out to list below.
